Asahel was a son of Zeruiah, who was King David's sister, and the brother of Joab and Abishai. Asahel was renown for being fleet of foot (2 Sam. 2:18), but his ability to run swiftly was his downfall. When Asahel pursued Abner in battle, Abner killed him with his spear (2 Sam. 2:23). The name Asahel means "God has made."
