Jairus was a synagogue official, and the father of a girl who was raised from the dead by Jesus. Jairus pleaded with Jesus, saying, "My daughter is at the point of death. Please come lay hands on her that she may get well and live." (Mark 5:22-23). Before Jesus got to Jarius' house, a messenger came from Jarius' house to say that his daughter had died, there was no longer any reason to bother Jesus. But Jesus urged the man to have faith and continued to his house. Jesus "took the child's father and mother and those who were with Him and entered the room where the child was. He took the child by the hand and said to her, 'Talitha kown' which means, 'Little girl, I say to you arise!' The girl, a child of twelve, arose immediately and walked around." (Mark 5:40-42).
