Nebuzaradan was a captain in Nebuchadnezzar's army. After Jerusalem fell to the Babylonians, he came into the city and destroyed it. Under his command the soldiers burned down the Temple, the palace, the houses, and every large building. They then tore down the walls surrounding Jerusalem. (2 Kings 25:8-10). Nebuzaradan also led the last of the people in the city into exile, but some people he left behind as vinedressers and farmers.

He also confiscated the bronze, gold and silver of the Temple. He freed the prophet Jeremiah from captivity in Jerusalem, and gave him a choice to go with him to Babylon or stay in Judah. Jeremiah decided to stay in Judah (Jeremiah 40:1-6).

Nebuzaradan means "Nabu has given offspring"
