How can we know that Jesus is the Messiah who was predicted and promised by the Old Testament prophets?

Jesus is the most predicted person in the record of human history, as explained by Christian author Ray Konig in his book 301 Prophecies Fulfilled by Jesus.

In fact, that book identifies and explains 301 prophecies from the Old Testament that foretold details about the birth, life, ministry, death, resurrection and impact of Jesus.

Konig explains that Jesus is not only the most predicted religious figure but that he is the only predicted religious figure for whom followers can point to hundreds of fulfilled prophecies:

“Jesus is unique as a person and as a religious figure. He is the subject of more than 300 prophecies that were written centuries before he was born.” - Ray Konig, 301 Prophecies Fulfilled by Jesus

If you have ever had any doubts that Jesus is the Messiah who was predicted by the Old Testament prophets, consider this evidence:

  1. Jesus is the only person in history who has ever been successful in claiming that he is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies. There have been many false messiahs, but none have ever achieved or sustained a widespread following, as explained by Konig.
  2. There are more than 300 prophecies in the Old Testament of the Bible about a promised savior, often called the Messiah or Christ, who would suffer and die for the sins of others so that others could be forgiven and given eternal life in heaven.
  3. These prophecies predicted details involving the Messiah’s birth, birthplace, nature, life, ministry, death, resurrection, ascension and impact.
  4. These prophecies were written centuries before Jesus was born. Jesus was born about 2,000 years ago. The Old Testament was completed about 2,400 years ago.
  5. There is no other religious figure who can claim to be the fulfillment of hundreds of prophecies. In fact, as Konig points out, you would have a difficult time finding even one other religious figure who claims to be the fulfillment of even one prophecy.

And that is saying something. According to some estimates, we have had more than 3,000 religious figures throughout history.

But only one is widely embraced as the promised savior who fulfills more than 300 predictions in the Old Testament, and that is Jesus the Messiah.
