Question: A reader asks: “Why did Jesus only fulfill prophecies that we can't verify?”

Response: Actually, Jesus did fulfill prophecies that we can verify.

As an example, the prophets of the Old Testament foretold that the promised savior -- the Messiah -- would have a worldwide spiritual impact, that he would become known throughout the world and worshipped throughout the world -- and Jesus is the first person to have ever achieved a worldwide spiritual impact, with the worldwide spread of Christianity.

In fact, by some metrics, Jesus remains the only religious figure to have ever achieved a worldwide spiritual impact: Christianity remains the only religion with a majority presence in at least one country within each of the inhabitable continents of the world (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America).

In fact, there even are churches in Antarctica. You can verify this by inputting the search term "churches antarctica" into a search engine and you will find articles and images for at least a half-dozen churches that were built for researchers who visit Antarctica.

The prophets of the Old Testament gave more than a dozen prophecies about the promised Messiah having a worldwide spiritual impact, as explained in the books 301 Prophecies Fulfilled by Jesus and Jesus the Messiah, by Ray Konig.

On that page, if you search for the phrase "worldwide spiritual impact," you will find several examples of Old Testament prophecies that Jesus later fulfilled. And https://www.aboutbibleprophecy.com/impact.htm explains some of these prophecies.

These prophecies include this example from Zechariah, which was written about 500 years before Jesus was born:

9 Rejoice greatly, Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your King is coming to you. He is righteous and brings salvation. He is humble and is riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem. The battle bow will be taken away, and he will proclaim peace to the nations. His kingdom will extend from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth. 11 As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will release your prisoners from the waterless pit. (Zechariah 9:9-11, EHV)

In this prophecy, the Messiah is the King in verse 9. This is the same promised king -- the promised Messiah -- who is featured in 2 Samuel 7:12-16, Micah 5:1-4, Isaiah 7:13-14, Isaiah 9:1-7, Psalm 2:1-12, and other Old Testament prophecies.

In Zechariah’s prophecy, the worldwide spiritual impact is predicted in Zechariah 9:10 with the phrase he will proclaim peace to the nations. In the Old Testament, the word peace, which is shalom, is a very important spiritual term that refers to the peace between God and mankind, which would be achieved through the promised Messiah.

In other words, Zechariah’s prophecy is predicting that the Messiah would be the one person who publicly announces himself as the Messiah by humbly riding a lowly donkey into Jerusalem -- while being hailed as the Messiah (Look! Your King is coming to you.) -- and that the Messiah would have a spiritual impact on the nations of the world, meaning he would have a worldwide spiritual impact.

And the fulfillment of this prophecy is undeniably extreme and easily verifiable. Jesus remains the only person on record as ever having ridden a donkey into Jerusalem while being hailed as the Messiah (Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-38, John 12:12-19), and Christianity is the world’s most widespread religion today, by far, with a presence in at least 97 percent of the world’s 200 or so countries, according to the Pew Research Center and the CIA World Factbook.

This prophecy from Zechariah is just one example of how Jesus has fulfilled prophecies in ways that we can verify for ourselves.
